John “Ski” Florkiewicz, age 80, a native of Staten Island, NY and a resident of Fairhope, AL, passed Sunday, June 21, 2015. Ski and his wife Carolyn met while he was a Naval Cadet in Pensacola and is a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a Seargent in New York City Police Department, retired in 1983. Ski was a past Commodore of Lake Forest Yacht Club, a member of FMCA, American Legion, and SBA. He is preceded in death by his son, Matthew Florkiewicz. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Benson Florkiewicz; children, Karen (Dick) Merideth of Daphne, John (Mary) Florkiewicz of Blackwood, NJ, Teresa (Carl) Jehle of St. Thomas, Michael (Susan) Florkiewicz of Daphne, Mary Weeks (Patricia Malpass) of Destin, FL; daughter-in-law, Christina Florkiewicz of Birmingham; ten grandchildren; two great granddaughters; sister, Joan Parsons of Bloomingdale, NJ. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope. A Mass to Celebrate Ski’s life will be held Friday, June 26, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Fairhope. Burial will be held at the Alabama Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Spanish Fort, AL, Friday, June 26, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to: Covenant Hospice 1040 Stanton Rd.
