HOLK FOLEY, AL Frances Josephine Floyd Holk, "Fannie Jo" Holk, 89 years old, of Magnolia Springs, Alabama and longtime resident of Foley, Alabama passed away on Monday, May 4th, 2015 of a Pulmonary Embolism. Fannie Jo was born on August 20th, 1925 in Opelika, Alabama to Andrew & Claire Floyd. Her family lived in Linden until her teenage years when they moved to Baldwin County. She graduated Robertsdale High School in 1944. She then worked at Farmers & Merchants Bank as a teller / bookkeeper for the next 11 years. One particular morning on her way to work she noticed a handsome hitchhiker making his way from Auburn, she decided to give him - Arthur Abel Holk- a ride into Foley & as fate would have it the two spent the next 64 years of their lives together. Arthur and Fannie Jo's love story began on a first date to Fairhope in Dean Hanson's brand new, red Dodge convertible in May 1950. It continued as they joined the Methodist Church together that Fall then got married on December 3rd of that same year (1950) at the old Foley Methodist Church which was on the corner of Laurel Avenue (Highway 98) and Pine Street. There, Fannie Jo spent many of her younger years as a Sunday School teacher. She and Arthur had two children, Frances & Andy. Fannie Jo was a dedicated, loving mother and devoted wife. She was a faithful "First Lady" to the City of Foley and was active as a State Officer of the Grand Chapter of the Eastern Star of Alabama. Fannie Jo has been described as a true Southern lady. She was all things gracious and good. Fannie Jo was a loyal friend to many and had a special way of always making those around her smile. Fannie Jo is survived by her husband of 64 years, Arthur A. Holk of Foley, AL; daughter, Frances (Carl) Jones of Foley, AL; son, Andy Holk of Perdido Beach, AL; grandchildren, Grayson Moore, Drew Holk, and Starfish Holk. She is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jennifer Moore and son-in-law, Neal Moore. Fannie Jo had many relatives & friends she held very dear including her caregiver & dear friend Brenda Ford. Funeral services for Fannie Jo Holk will be held on Wednesday, May 6th, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Foley United Methodist Church at 915 North Pine Street in Foley. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1:00 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be held at Pine Rest immediately following the service.
