Peggy Corte Shilston, a long-time resident of Fairhope, passed away April 21, 2015 with her family by her side after a year-long battle with ovarian cancer. Peggy had a fun sense of humor mixed in with a spunky attitude, hence her nickname, “Perk.” But most importantly, she had a very giving heart to many which was also evident in her love for her dogs. Peggy’s life was dedicated to her family and friends as she was always striving to help make others’ lives easier. Born in Collinsville, Ill, she graduated from Collinsville High School and then attended Newcomb College for Women in New Orleans. After getting married and moving to Fairhope in 1958, Peggy made south Alabama her life-long home. Over the years, she worked mainly in the apartment management business and also in the local hotel industry. She also volunteered at Thomas Hospital in the 1960’s and 70’s as well as for the St. Paul’s Thrift Shop from 2007-2014. Peggy could be best described as a down-to-earth classy Southern lady who’ll truly be missed by her family and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Jim and Margaret Crossley, brother Jimmy Crossley, her husband Jim Shilston, Jr, and most recently, her loving companion of 8 years, John Nystrom. She is survived by her daughter Cindy Corte Trice (Dan), sons Danny Corte (Trudy), Jim Shilston III (Andrea), and grandchildren Chris Sims, Carly Corte, Halle and Jane Shilston, Jamie, Hannah, and Julie Trice, and Blake and Connor Owens, plus many nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Daphne on May 6, 2015. The family will receive visitors at 2 PM at the church with the service scheduled for 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either All About Dogs Coastal Rescue, P. O. Box 476, Magnolia Springs, AL 36555 or to the Mitchell Cancer Institute, 1660 Springhill Avenue, Mobile, AL 36604.
