William Joseph (Billy) Stewart, 86, native of Mobile, AL and resident of Daphne, AL passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family on January 28, 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Sylvia Carpenter Stewart, brother, Robert (Bobby) Stewart, and sister, Betty Stewart Foster. He is survived by his son CDR William Bowen Stewart, daughter-in-law Julie Williams Stewart, grandsons Hunter and Tyler, numerous nieces, nephews and relatives, as well as his caregiver of 6 years, Mrs. Rosemary Lowe. Mr. Stewart was a United States Marine Corps veteran who served during World War II and the Korean War. He fought in multiple engagements, but most notably in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir and was part of the greatest generation. He married Sylvia Carpenter, whom he had known since he was in 1st grade. They married shortly after he returned from Korea in 1951. His son “Bo” was born in 1960 and was their only child although “Billy” surrounded himself with countless loving nieces and nephews. He worked at State Farm for 35 years before retiring and enjoying his devoted twin grandsons Hunter and Tyler. His smile and laugh will be sorely missed by friends and family. The family would like to especially thank Belinda Pounds, RN and Faith Strachan, RN from Gentiva Hospice for their exceptional care. Graveside services and interment will be held Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
