Alice Jo Isherwood

d. January 8, 2015

Alice Jo Isherwood died Thursday, January 8, 2015 of old age; she was 89 years old. Alice Jo was born June 24, 1925 to Eileen & Joseph Blazi and raised in Fort Worth, TX. She met and married Dan Russell Isherwood, of Dallas, TX, in 1945 at the end of WW11 and started a family in San Antonio, TX. They moved to Corpus Christi, TX in 1947 where they lived raising their first four children. In 1956, shortly after visiting friends in Fairhope, AL, Dan & Alice moved their family to, and remained in Fairhope, for the rest of their lives. Alice was a very outgoing individual with many friends, young and old alike, eager to learn from her elders and to share with youngsters. She read continuously throughout her competent life concentrating on philosophy and religion. Dan & Alice were members of the Fairhope Methodist Church and were active teaching Sunday school and the Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) for several years. They then turned their religious focus to the Ecumenical Institute and remained active with EI until Dan’s death in 1988. Alice and Dan were very close and enjoyed their lives together. Besides their family and strong religious convictions, they like to fish and hunt, especially fishing for speckled trout in the surf at Gulf Shores and hunting wild turkey. They were also both very good cooks. Alice was strong minded outspoken individual. She believed strongly in the United States and its Constitution and spoke out as an activist for Civil Rights. Alice was loved by many people. Even after Alzheimer’s was declared in 2002, she continued to her end to be friendly with prejudice to everyone she encountered. She is survived by her seven children, Susan Gibbs, William Isherwood, Penelope Isherwood, Dan Isherwood, Cathy Isherwood (D), Joseph Isherwood, and Robin Crittenden; eleven grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for late June, the exact date will be announced soon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests, and encourages, donations be made in her memory to: Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org/donate.
