Albert R. St. Clair

ST. CLAIR Albert R. St. Clair, a resident of Daphne, passed away peacefully December 14, 2014 after a long struggle with a rare, incurable muscle disease. He is predeceased by his mother and father, Louise and Albert St. Clair, and a son, Mark Andrew St. Clair. He is survived by his dear wife, Judith, three children, Jeff St. Clair, Aimee (St. Clair) Valdez (Dean) and Shannon Lane (Joe), five grandchildren, Sara Miles (St. Clair) Agee (Christopher), Elizabeth St. Clair, Zac St. Clair, Callan Lane, and Bella Valdez, and great grandchild Henry Lee Agee. He also is survived by a sister, Carmen Whittington, and a niece, Debbie Whittington. Born in Philadelphia, Penn., and raised in Wilmington, Del., Al spent most of his adult life in Mobile and Baldwin counties. He was a graduate of the University of Delaware and was a decorated combat veteran of the Korean War, where he served with the 7th Infantry Division. He spent 30 years with Scott Paper Company and then 16 years with the City of Mobile in various capacities. As Director of Historic Downtown Redevelopment for the city, he was instrumental in the restoration of the Battle House Hotel, the construction of the RSA Tower, and the restoration of Fort Conde Village. He also served as Director of Legislative and Government Affairs, and Director of Waterfront Development for the city. As the city’s Director of the Alabama Cruise Terminal, he oversaw the construction, operation and management of the Terminal. He retired in 2011. Al was very active in community service, serving on many boards and committees, including service as Director of Mobile United and time with the Mobile Chamber of Commerce. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 18, 4:00-5:30 p.m. at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne with a memorial service immediately following. Honorary pallbearers are Callan Lane, Zac St. Clair, Dean Valdez, Joseph Lane, H. Morgan Ashurst, M.D. and Robin Delaney. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Mobile Child Advocacy Center, 1351 Springhill Avenue, Mobile, AL 36604.
