RHOE ALBERT ‘Al’ THOMPSON (1936 – 2014) RHOE ALBERT ‘Al’ THOMPSON, of Perdido Beach Alabama, left this world on November 21st, 2014.Al was a Texan at heart, born to Angelita and Rhoe Adams Thompson in Brownsville in 1936. He was the child of a military family, and he too joined the Army in 1954. This was the beginning of 20 years of highly decorated service, including tours in Korea, Japan, Pakistan, and Germany, monitoring the Cold War activities of our nation’s adversaries. Al was a self-proclaimed “Jack-of-all-trades,” with passions spanning antiques, leatherwork, woodworking, construction, livestock, and firearms, among many others. After retiring from the military as an E-8 Master Sergeant, he was a proprietor of several area businesses, including the Thomas Clock Company in Perdido Beach, AL, La Bayou Inn Restaurant in Gulf Shores, AL; Tienda del Mar (leather and shoe works) in Foley, AL; La Cocina Mexican Restaurant near Lillian (FL side); and most recently A & L Enterprises, a clearing/excavation business. Al was elected to the first Perdido Beach Town Council following the township’s incorporation in 2009. He also proudly served his community as a dedicated member of the Perdido Beach Volunteer Fire Department. He treasured the small community lifestyle that exists at Perdido Beach and his tireless work for the preservation of this way of life will always be remembered. Al, and his disarming, unabashed sense of humor, will be missed by all. He will be remembered as a true patriot, and his conservative principles and love of country will live on in his descendants. He is survived by his wife, Lynn, and four devoted children, Connie Clark (J. Richard), Tony Thompson (Ann), Dianne Watts (Jay), and Jason Haupt. While living in the light of their grandfather’s inspiration, Al’s seven grandchildren: Mary and Joseph Clark, Ryan and Rachel Williams, Jessica Thompson and Jacob and Jason Watts will carry on his legacy of love of family and service to country. Al is survived by his former wife, Flo Maxwell (Donald Maxwell) and two older sisters, Jeanetta Doan and Peggy Thompson. Al fell victim to a stroke on November 14th at the age of 78. Funeral service will be held from the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Foley, Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 10:00am. The family will receive friends one hour prior to funeral service. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, FL at 12:30pm.
