BRAYFIELD ELBERTA, AL Wayne Alvin Brayfield, age 63, native of New Mexico and resident of Elberta, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014. Wayne was a devoted family man. Wayne’s life spanned from coal mining to the music industry to thoroughbred horse racing. In his retirement, he continued to enjoy his time as a horseman in thoroughbred horse racing and traveling with his wife from Cuba to the Amazon to Rome. Holding true to old friends and acquiring new ones till his passing. Wayne was preceded in death by his mother, Merry Brayfield and a brother, Loren Smelley. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Hodges of Elberta, AL; two daughters, Tina (Derrek) Hutchins of Marion, IL, Leigh (Ted) Heater of Ewing, IL; one son, Jerry Brayfield of Gulf Shores; two stepdaughters, Jeannie (Robbie) Jaeger of Fairhope, Michelle (Jeff) Nelson of Foley; two stepsons, Steve Hodges of Telluride, CO, Clint (Fernanda) Hodges of Nashville, TN; six grandchildren, Andrew Jacob Hutchins, Autumn Hutchins, Bryson Brayfield, Brayden Brayfield, Brooklyn Brayfield, Payton Heater; four stepgrandchildren; three brothers, Keldon Smelley of Greenville, KY, Jack Vancil of Stone Fort, IL, Tim Brayfield of Herrin, IL; one sister, Becky Hall of Christopher, IL and many other loving family members and friends. A Celebration of Wayne’s Life will be held Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Oak Hollow Farms in Fairhope, AL. The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 6:00 pm.
