Vesta L. Gethers

GETHERS FAIRHOPE, AL Vesta L. Gethers, a resident of Fairhope, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014. Mrs. Gethers passed in her home, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Gethers attended and was a member of Fairhope United Methodist Church and a graduate of Fairhope High School, class of 1956 (Vesta Whitcomb). She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and daughter. She was a colorful person, with quick wit and an infectious smile, never meeting a stranger and never shying away from striking up a conversation. She loved children, flowers, painting, cooking, reading and spending quiet hours with her husband of 57 years, Richard. She was preceded in death by her parents, John O. and Vivian Whitcomb of Mobile, AL and her younger sister, Yvonne Walker of Theodore, AL. She is survived by her husband, Richard Gethers of Fairhope, daughter, Julie Gethers of Fairhope, son, David Gethers (Margaret) of Auburn, brother, John A. Whitcomb (Nita) of Theodore, brother-in-law, Bill Walker of Theodore, sister, Brenda Haskew (Daryl) of Fairhope, sister, Lois Flowers (Greg) of Mobile, granddaughter, Ashley Gethers of Auburn, step-grandson, Jason Clark (Laura) of Montgomery ,step-grandson, Jeremy Clark of Atlanta, numerous supportive family members and a multitude of devoted and caring friends. A Celebration of Vesta’s Life will be held Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Vesta requested that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project. The family would like to express their gratitude to the following: The Mitchell Cancer Center and Spring Hill Hospice for their kind, diligent support and loving care.
