SPANISH FORT Alice Ann Hinger, age 83, a native of Newark, OH and a resident of Spanish Fort, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014. She attended the University of South Alabama, Troy State University, Alabama State University, earning a master’s degree and AA in Elementary Education. Alice enjoyed teaching at Loxley Elementary for 23 years and was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa. She was president of the Jaycettes in Newark and lifetime member of Phythian Sisters Lodge. After moving to Spanish Fort, she was president of the Garden Club and Spanish Fort Elementary School PTA, was Spanish Fort Neighbor of the Year, Girl Scout Leader, member of Heisey Collectors of America, served as President/Festival Chair of Mobile Square Dancers Association. Alice served as President with Thomas Hospital Auxiliary and as State Chairman of the Alabama Council of Hospital Auxiliary until her illness in 2013. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lillybell Bragg. Alice is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Carl E. Hinger of Spanish Fort; daughter, Elizabeth Hinger Osborne and her husband Colonel William R. Osborne, USAF, Retired of Fountain Inn, SC; son, David Hinger and his wife Carla Smith Hinger of Madison, AL.; daughter, Diana Hinger Cogdill and her husband, Joseph Cogdill, Jr., of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren, Daniel Osborne, Robert Osborne, Brian Hinger, Brittany Hinger and Katherine Cogdill. Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery, in New York.
