FAIRHOPEHartley Elvin Nelson, Jr. age 65, a life-long resident of Fairhope, AL, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, wounded in Vietnam earning the Purple Heart. He was lifetime member of the V.F. W., Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the Marine Corps League. He is preceded in death by his parents, Buster and Ethel Nelson; son, Michael Anthony Nelson; brother, Tucker Nelson and sister, Dixie Hempfleng. He is survived by his daughter, Captain Angela M. Nelson, USMC, of Quantico, VA; brother, Sammy R. Nelson (Barbara) of Fairhope; numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope, Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. Graveside services and interment will be held in the Alabama State Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, AL on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Barnwell Baptist Church, Ronald McDonald House, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
