Margaret “Meg” Hamilton Baxter, 94, died on July 15, 2014 in Fairhope, Alabama. She was born in Sweden to Dr. Bengt and Elise Hamilton and the family immigrated to this country when she was four. Meg taught elementary school in Evanston, Illinois. In addition, she led an active life and enjoyed seeing the country through camping and a trailer. She wrote and published poetry, painted, and read extensively. After retirement, she volunteered at various places in Fairhope. She is survived by her children, Karin Sergel, Teresa (Dean) McCullough, Roger (Martha) Sergel, Pamela (Robert) Baxter Chase, and Barbara (Glenn) McNear as well as her eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, and her special friend Edward Hails. Her two husbands, Clark F. Sergel and Carl H. Baxter, and three siblings predeceased her. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. She should be remembered for her ever cheerful demeanor, optimistic spirit and delightful sense of humor.
