DAPHNE, AL. Joseph Michael Romagnano Sr., born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and a resident of Daphne, AL passed away on Friday, June 20, 2014. He served in the United States Army Air Corps (Air Force) for three years, twenty-four years in the Air Force Reserves and was a World War ll veteran. Mr. Romagnano was very active in Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) for over 40 years, he served in several capacities including being elected to the office of national president of PVA in 1978 where he served two consecutive terms. Until most recently he had been serving as president of the local Bayou-Gulf States Chapter until he had to resign due to a sudden illness. Joe became involved in PVA in 1971 after he retired as a lieutenant with the Mobile Police Department. He had been with the department for more than 20 years in which he received many awards for his community service. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Daphne where he served as an usher at Mass. He was a current member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2737 Fourth Degree. Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Lorraine Walker Romagnano. Survivors include three children, Joseph M. (Pam) Romagnano, Jr., Monica Romagnano and John T. ( Cindy) Romagnano; one brother, John J. Romagnano of Charleston, S.C; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces, a nephew, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers the family request donations in Joe’s name to the Knights of Columbus, Council 2737, Daphne, AL or Paralyzed Veterans of America. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Covenant Hospice, North Baldwin Infirmary and William F. Green Veterans Home for their compassionate care. A Celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 11:00am at Christ the King Catholic Church, Daphne, AL. The Rosary will be prayed at 9:30am and friends will be received from 10:00am until time of the Mass. Inurnment will follow at 2:00pm at Pine Crest Cemetery, Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL.
