Robert Hasler Shine

d. May 2, 2014

Robert Hasler Shine, of Fairhope, Alabama, died Friday May 2, 2014. He was born to the late Jeremiah Anthony Shine, son of an immigrant from County Cork Ireland, and Meta Katherine Brassell Shine on August 22nd 1933 at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Montgomery Alabama. Bob grew up in Wetumpka on a horse farm and in keeping with the Shine tradition, he attended high school at St. Bernard Prep in Cullman. At age 17, his father passed away. Bob served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Upon returning from service, he enrolled at the University of Alabama and received a degree in Geology. There he developed a deep and abiding love for Alabama football and all things “Roll Tide!” Bob worked at R.W. Grace for many years and achieved a lifelong dream of owning his own business by purchasing River City Industries and growing it into successful ready mix plants before retiring and selling to Ready Mix USA. Bob was married to Wilma Langston Shine for 30 years. He is survived by his two children: daughter, Laura Katherine Shine Lee; her husband, Philip Alston Lee of Atlanta Georgia; and son, Col. Robert Langston Shine; his wife, Dr. Kathleen Tucker Shine of Meridian, Mississippi. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Robert Tucker Shine, Katherine Shine Lee, Andrew Russell Shine, Matthew Henry Shine and Henry Langston Lee. One of his many true loves was gardening; he built greenhouses and cutting boxes with sprinkler systems where he propagated plants and shared with friends. Bob also had a deep love for music. Whether hitchhiking as a teen to New Orleans to hear his favorite Dixieland Jazz band, playing the trombone for his grandkids, or listening to Broadway show tunes, Bob had a song for everyone. The funeral will be held Saturday May 10th at 10:00 am at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope. The burial will be Monday May 12th at 10:00 am at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort. Bob loved nothing more than sitting on the dock of the bay sharing cold beer with warm friends. He will be deeply missed.   ARRANGEMENTS BY WOLFE-BAYVIEW FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATORY, INC. 19698 GREENO ROAD FAIRHOPE, AL 36532 (251)990-7775 www.wolfefuneralhomes.com
