Robert Allan Gustin, Senior May 3rd, 1932 - April 18th, 2014 A native of Winthrop, Massachusetts, Robert (“Bob”) was the youngest son of Harry Winfield Gustin, Sr. and Madelaine Bowman Gustin. He had previously been a long-time resident of Diamondhead, Mississippi, before residing in Fairhope, Alabama. After honorable service in the U.S. Army, he graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi. He held a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma, a certificate of Accounting from the University of Alabama at Huntsville, and he was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. Robert enjoyed a twenty year career with NASA in contract administration and procurement including the space program’s Apollo, Columbia and Challenger projects. After his work with NASA, he retired from Martin-Marietta to enjoy many years of travel, golf and quality time with his wife. During his 30 year residency in Diamondhead, Robert was active in many things including holding his real estate license, the Diamondhead Boaters’ Association, the Krewe of Diamondhead, and he served as elected to the Diamondhead Property Owners Association’s Board of Directors. A lover, studier and master of the golf game from a very young age, he held championship titles for many tournaments in Hawaii, Mississippi, and Alabama. Among these included the Mississippi State Super Senior Amateur Champion Title in the years of 1997, 1998, 2000, and 2002. Robert is survived by his wife, Alma Clarice Lott Gustin of Fairhope, AL; one daughter, Leslie Karen (Gary) Williams of Magee, MS; one son, Robert Allan (Christy) Gustin, Jr. of Mobile, AL; grandchildren, Lauren Lee Williams, Robert Allan Gustin III, Shelby Savan Gustin, David Winfield Gustin and Elizabeth Adele Gustin; other relatives and friends. Pallbearers include Ronnie Williams, Wayne Hilton, Tippy O’Bryant, Hunter Broome, Tripp Gustin and Win Gustin. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Interment will follow the same day at 12:30pm with military honors at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to Shepherd's Place ministry, Fairhope United Methodist Church.
