Donald Wesley McNair

McNAIRFOLEY, ALDonald Wesley McNair, age 75, a resident of Foley, AL, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014.Donald was born on May 8, 1938 in Dahlgren, IL, and moved with his family to Fort Branch, IN, where he graduated from Fort Branch High School inn 1956. He attended Evansville College, where he received a Bachelor's degree in Business in 1960.Don spent several successful years in public relations, both at the PR firm Burson-Marsteller and as the president of McNair Marketing Communications. He won several prestigious awards from the Public Relations Society of America, including the Silver Anvil and three Golden Trumpets.Don and his wife Rita had a deep love for antiques. The two owned the Gasworks Antique Mall in Foley, AL. They also spent several years traveling the southeastern United States selling at regional antique shows before retiring in December of 2012.Don spent his free time writing, painting, and sculpting. He wrote four how-to-books and seven novels, and created several sculptures, paintings and holographic images.He is preceded in death by his wife, Rita, and his parents, Ruth Brown McNair and Melvin Wesley McNair.Survivors include his sisters, Lari McNair and Billy McNair, his brother, Mike (Nancy) McNair, three children, Gary (Liz) McNair, Amy McNair (Mike) Wheaton, Scott (Stacy) McNair, five grandchildren, April McNair (Cory) Brockett, Samantha McNair, Gabrielle McNair, Taylor Wheaton and Kelsey McNair, two great grandchildren; Harleigh and Jude Brockett.Funeral service will be held from Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home,  Wednesday. April 2, 2014 at 11:00am . The family will recieve friends one hour prior to funeral service.Interment will follow in Wynn Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Mitchell Cancer Institute in Mobile, AL.
