SHAW FAIRHOPE, AL Jerome Shaw, age 92, a native of New York and a resident of Fairhope, AL passed away Friday, March 07, 2014. Mr. Shaw was a US Army Air Corp veteran of WWII. He was a proponent of the civil rights movement in Alabama and campaigned for admission of African Americans to the University of Alabama in 1947. Mr. Shaw was an accomplished painter, sculptor and the author of many novels and many short stories. His plays were produced in New York and New Jersey. He was selected in 2013 and 2014 for the Eastern Shore Art Center Juried Show, Fairhope, AL. Mr. Shaw was a former employee of Dept. of Community Affairs in New Jersey, a longtime participant in Democratic politics, and the creator of the first Land Bank program in the state of New Jersey. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Bernice Weinstein Shaw. He is survived by his three sons, Joshua (Karen) Shaw of San Francisco, CA, William (Anne Vorce) Shaw of Silver Spring, MD, and Jesse (Connie) Walkershaw of San Francisco, CA.; one granddaughter, Carmen Claire Walkershaw of New York, NY. Services will be held Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 11:30 am at Menorah Chapel, Millburn, NJ Interment will be at Beth Moses Cemetery in West Babylon, NY.
