SPANISH FORT Alton Lloyd Simmons, age 81, a native of Mobile and a resident of Spanish Fort, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014.He graduated from Murphy, class of 1951. Alton was a decorated US Navy Veteran of the Korean War and The Straights of Formosa, spending 44 months in the Pacific aboard the U. S. Navy Destroyer O’Bannon 450. Alton retired as a supervisor at Bell South Telephone Co. after 35 years of service. Alton was a life member of VFW Post 5660 in Fairhope, a life member of Telephone Pioneers of America, past president of Spanish Fort Civitan Club and Lt. Governor of Alabama West Florida District – Civitan International.He is survived by his loving wife Emily P. Simmons and their son: Alton Brett Simmons, both of Spanish Fort; their daughter: Sonia (Billy) Dismukes of Mobile; sister: Dolores Simmons of Mobile; sister-in-law: Florence Vernon of Grand Bay; grandchildren: Chad Graddick, Andrew Dismukes, Brandon Simmons, Lawson Simmons; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 21, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Daphne. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. Interment will be at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort. In lieu of flowers contributions made to the Disabled Veterans, P. O.
