Harold "Duke" Edward Joyner

FAIRHOPE, AL Harold E. “Duke” Joyner was born on May 12, 1948 in Mobile, AL to John E. Joyner Jr. and Rose M. Lucassen. He died on Friday, February 14, 2014 at the age of 65. He was a lifelong resident of Fairhope, with the exception of time spent in the military. Duke graduated from McGill Institute in 1966 and Troy State University in 1984 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He entered the United States Air Force in 1969 and served tours of duty in Okinawa, Kansas, Thailand and Utah. He was employed for 28 years as a service technician by Bell South Telephone Company, retiring in 2002. He was also a life member of American Legion Post 199 and VFW Post 5660, both located in Fairhope. Duke loved sports, especially the Alabama Crimson Tide and Atlanta Braves. He always brought his calm demeanor to any situation and very wry sense of humor. He was an animal lover and missed his canine companion, Wilson. He was dedicated to his family, friends, career, and ZZ Top. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Marie Doubrava Joyner of Fairhope; sons, Robert J. Joyner of Summerdale and Chas Broughton (Candace) of Fairhope; one grandson, Cody; granddaughters, Maddie and Grier Broughton, Alex and Sarah Grace Penry; two half-brothers, Thomas Dalgity and James Dalgity; one half sister, Patricia Dalgity; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also by brothers in law and sisters in law, Jack and Janice Hollis, Timothy and Donna Johnson, Denis and Patricia Hermecz, who he loved very much and spent a lot of good times with. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 PM Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at 10:00 AM from the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens of Fairhope. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Diabetes Association P.O.
