MIDDLETON FAIRHOPE, AL Margie Jones Middleton, age 89, a longtime resident of Fairhope, passed away Monday night after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She fought bravely and heartily and was able to die in her own home of 53 years. She will be so missed. She was born in in a small mill town in Alabama called Vredenburg with her father Jamie L. Jones and mother, Mini Inez Jones and seven brothers and sisters. She spoke of her birthplace often and fondly. Ms. Margie was a registered nurse and worked at Beasley’s Nursing Home in Fairhope for 12 years. She then worked at Mercy Medical in the pharmacy for over 30 years. She retired at 79, but continued to volunteer at Mercy Medical and at Fairhope Health and Rehab (formerly Beasley’s) into her 80’s. She was also a longtime and devoted member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph D. Middleton, Sr.; her sister, Jolene Dean; her brother, John E. Jones. She is survived by her children, Daphne A. Middleton, Judith H. Pierce, Joseph D. Middleton, Jr. and Rebecca C. Middleton, M.D. and her granddaughter, Rainey Middleton. She is also survived by her brothers, Jamie Jones, Jr. and Bert Jones; her sisters, Doris Rittlemeyer, Marilyn Mote, and Katherine “Kitty” Hobbs, 27 nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 20, 2013 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church at 2:00 PM; the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Belforest Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Catholic Charities and/or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
