Betty Lou Heinecke

d. January 12, 2014

HEINECKE LILLIAN, AL Betty Lou Heinecke was born on May 31, 1929, in Aurora, Ill., the only child of Adolph and Harriet (Kossert) Castens. On Jan. 12, 2014, she passed on to her heavenly home as her husband and other family members read scripture and sang her favorite hymns. Betty devoted her life in humble service to her Lord and family. She attended Valparaiso University, Indiana, where she obtained a music degree. While singing in the choir and playing in the orchestra, she met Frederick, her future husband of 62 years. Much of her professional life was devoted to music in the church. She served as choir director, church organist, and teacher. Betty and Fred’s three sons “grew up in the choir loft,” sitting with Dad in the bass section while Mom directed the choir and played the organ. Through her love of music, she inspired her children, grandchildren, and countless choir members and students. To her family and friends, Betty’s devotion and passion in her service to her Lord was obvious. Betty’s role as a caregiver was defined by her unwavering fortitude and servant faith. When their first son, Mark, contracted polio, she led him through his recovery. She took her aging parents into her home and tended to their needs. When her husband suffered a stroke 18 years ago, she became his loving helpmate. Her constant faithfulness serves as an inspiration to all of us. Betty is survived by her husband, Frederick; three sons, Mark (Inger), Paul (Ruth) and Kurt (Judy); and five grandchildren, David Heinecke, Luke Heinecke, Gretchen (Weston) Demonbreun, Clayton Heinecke and Wesley Heinecke. Because of Betty’s rich musical background, memorials will be equally divided between the music departments of her church and family’s college alma maters: Shepard of the Bay Lutheran Church, Valparaiso University, Concordia University Chicago, and Luther College. Soli deo Gloria - To God alone be the Glory. Services will be held Friday, January 17, 2014 at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church, 12851 Perdido Street, Lillian, AL. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:30. The memorial service will be at noon followed by a luncheon. Memorial gifts may be sent to Fred Heinecke, 2874 Avenida Alberto Lillian? AL? 36549.
