David Richard Learner

FAIRHOPE David Richard Learner, age 86, a native and resident of Chicago, IL until retirement and a current resident of Fairhope, AL, for 18 years, passed away Friday, October 4th, 2013. A WWII veteran, Dave joined the Navy at age 17, in 1944.  He attended the University of Illinois and the Illinois Institute of Technology, graduation with a B. S. degree in Biochemistry.  He retired from Montgomery Wards as an executive in the Data Processing Division.  Dave loved flying airplanes, sailing his Rhodes 19 on Lake Michigan and traveling the world.  He was a member of the Baldwin Senior Travelers, volunteered at the Fairhope Public Library and the loggerhead turtle program in Gulf Shores.He is survived by his devoted and loving wife June, Sister, Elaine (Hershel) Orenstein, Niece, Elyse (Thomas) Bailey, Nephew, Alan Orenstein, Brothers-in-law, Norman (Marylin) Betzer and Thomas Betzer.Funeral services will be private.Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674, https://donate.americanheart.org/ecommerce/donation/acknowledgement_info.
