FAIRHOPE Archibald Franklin Smart, age 93, a lifelong resident of Fairhope, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 at his home and birthplace He was a farmer known for his Brahman cattle and beautiful hay. Active in his church, Mr. Smart gave the Sunday service at Montrose Bay Nursing Home for over forty years and was a reknown eulogist in the community He also served as a substitute teacher at Fairhope High School and Robertsdale Vocational School for many years He is survived by his wife, Mildred Smart of Fairhope of 71 years; son, Leonard E. Smart and his wife Sharon of Fairhope; daughters, Eleanor Underwood and her husband Lyle of Josephine, Alice Corley and her husband John of Penhook, VA, Iris Smart and her husband Walter of Fairhope; five grandchildren, Kim Frank, David Smart, Gabe Tipton, John and Neil Wood; seven great grandchildren; devoted family friend and housekeeper, Rebecca Coleman, and his Jack Russell, Spot. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and friends Funeral services were held from the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope, Sunday, May 26, 2013, at 2:00pm, where Rev. Jeff Ingram officiated Interment followed in Belforest Community Cemetery.Pallbearers were Wesley Grant, Jimmie Fidler, Shane White, Malcolm Fosberg, Lynn Allison and Jimmy Harper.
