John James Cotton

COTTON BARNWELL, AL John James Cotton, age 77, resident of Barnwell, AL  passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013. Mr. Cotton was born and raised in Staten Island, NY and was a proud member of International Union Of Elevator Constructors Local One.  He retired after forty years of service to Gulf Shores, AL in 1996, settling permanently in Barnwell, AL in 2000.  He loved fishing, golfing and served happily as a volunteer coordinator at Timber Creek Golf Club for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John T. and Louise Smith Cotton; siblings, Joseph Cotton, Jr., Joseph Mahoney, Peggy Mahoney Marshall and Marie Mahoney. Mr. Cotton is survived by his wife, Patricia “Pat” Cotton of Barnwell, AL; two sons, Eric J. Cotton of Staten Island, NY,  Gary J. (Shirley) Cotton of Waialua, HI;  sister, Mary Ann (Salvatore) DiForte;  granddaughter, Shayla Marie Cotton;  grandsons, Ryan J. Cotton, Anthony and Jesse Valentino;  goddaughters, Jennifer and Kelsey Kline, all of Staten Island, NY; numerous Cotton, DiForte, Mahoney, Marshall, Maher and Kline nieces, nephews and other loved ones across the country. A Celebration Of John’s Life will be held Monday, April 15, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home Chapel, Fairhope, AL. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Donations in John’s name would be greatly appreciated to Pulmonary Fibrosis Research/ UAB Kirklin Clinic.
