Betty Louise Hirz

March 2, 1923 — February 4, 2013

  HIRZ FAIRHOPE Betty Louise Hirz, 89, died on February 4, 2013.  Mrs. Hirz was born on March 2, 1923 on a farm near South Whitley, Indiana.  She moved with her family to Perdido Beach, AL in the 1930’s.  She was a graduate of Foley High School, Class of 1941.  After moving from Foley to Fairhope in 1955 she became an active member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was the Supervisor of the Primary Department for 25 years. She went to work in the Registrar’s Office at the University of South Alabama when it opened in 1964 and retired in 1988 as the University’s first Academic Records Supervisor.  She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Ecor Rouge Chapter.  In retirement as a member of the Baldwin Senior Travelers, she traveled to many countries the world over. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Gladys Hayes of Perdido Beach, her husband Howard Hirz of Fairhope, son Michael Jewell of Tampa, FL, grandson Todd Jewell of Dallas, TX and sister Wanda Crosby of Foley.  She is survived by son Frederick Hirz of Pasadena, CA and daughter Kathy (Gary) Moore of Fairhope, daughter-in-law Diane Jewell of Taylors, SC and three grandchildren:  Jill (Robert) Wood of Montgomery, AL, Wendy Jewell of Murfreesboro, TN and Taylor Moore of New York City.  She also leaves six great and five great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 8th at 2:00 pm at the Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, 19698 Greeno Road, Fairhope, AL.  Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the funeral service.  Internment will be at Pine Rest Memorial Park In Foley.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Fairhope’s building fund, 300 S.
