Alice Neal Fender

DAPHNE   Alice Neal Fender, age 89, a native of Atlanta, GA and a resident of Daphne, AL, died Jan. 22, 2013. Alice (Niki) was born Sept.16, 1923.  She made her debut in 1942 with the Atlanta Dubutante Club at the Piedmont Driving Club.  She attended the University of Georgia where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.  On Apr.11, 1943 she married (then) Lt. Darwin Fender. They were residents of Fairhope and Mobile from 1957 and attended both Fairhope United Church and Kingswood United Methodist Church.  Mrs. Fender was a member of the d’Iberville chapter of the DAR, past president of the Azalea City Republican women, and active in her church. Mrs. Fender was preceded in death by her adored husband of 67 years, Darwin E. Fender and her parents, Earl G. and Alice C. Neal. She is survived by her two children, Rebecca (Robert) Giles of Daphne and Lt. Col. ret. J. Neal Fender of Notasulga, AL. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Douglas (Rosemarie) Peck of Columbia, MO, Jennifer (Frank) Porter of Vestavia Hills, AL, Joanna (Kevin) Phalen of Friendsville, PA and Erin (Mark) Blair of Auburn. In addition, she leaves behind five great grandchildren; Maurie Alice Porter, Jeffrey Blair, Glen Porter, Patrick Phalen and Isabella Blair. A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held from Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope, Saturday Feb. 2, 2013 at 10:30 A. M.
