TUSKEGEE, AL Lu James Nero was born on July 3, 1921 in Montrose, Alabama to the late Henry and Harriett Nero. He departed this life on December 26 th , 2012 at the Veterans Administrative Hospital in Tuskegee, Alabama. He attended Baldwin County Training School in Daphne, Alabama. After his schooling, Lu became a soldier during World War II. Upon leaving the Army, Lu James became a Federal employee for the Veterans Hospital and the Post Office in New York City for 20 years. While living in N.Y., he was united in holy matrimony to Blanche Louise Valrie. Lu was preceded in death by his wife Blanche Louise Nero and sisters Chester Gaithers and Katie Burt. He is survived by a loving family: son, Kevin, daughter-in-law, Marietta, granddaughters, Aundrea and Nicole, all of Montgomery, Alabama; sisters Kathleen Woods of Pensacola, Florida; Annie Snider, Mary Valrie, and brother, Samuel Nero of Montrose, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wealth of close personal friends. Lu James had a beautiful “Christian Spirit.” Being a loving and devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend, and will truly be missed. There are many wonderful words that can be expressed to describe Lu James; however they cannot fully capture the essence of a man so full of life and spirit. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 12:30 pm, from Greater Montrose AME Church. Services will follow at 2:00 pm. Interment will be at Montrose Cemetery.
