LILLIAN, AL Wendell Charles Phillips, age 84, born near Cullman, AL and a resident of Lillian, AL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 25, 2012, surrounded by his family. During his early childhood his family moved to Fairhope. He graduated from Fairhope High School in 1947. He married his childhood sweetheart, Anna Louise Pierce, on March 16, 1950. Shortly after he joined the Navy and was deployed as a Sea Bee in the reconstruction of Japan during the Korean War. Out of the Navy he lived and worked in Daphne as a plumber and then served as a civil servant at Brookley Air Force Base. In 1968, he was transferred to Pensacola Naval Base and moved his family to Lillian, Alabama. In Lillian, he was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church serving as chairman of the church deacons. He retired in 1983 and remained an active member of the community while staying busy with his latest project, gardening and fishing. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Louise,children: Wendell Jr. (Sue Ann), Ernie (Kim), Susan,grandchildren: Peree (Bret), Annie (Nick), Beth, Mallory, Callie (Rich), Christopher, Chloe,great grandchildren: Jordan, John Paul,many other family and friends. Graveside services and interment will be held in Timney South River Park Cemetery, Fairhope, AL, Monday, November 26, 2012, at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends following the graveside services, at the First Baptist Church of Lillian, 34421 Barclay Ave, Lillian, 36549.
