Doris Stack Ames

AMES FAIRHOPE, AL  Doris Stack Ames, age 87, a native of Bradford PA and a resident of Point Clear, AL passed away Thursday, September 20, 2012.  She is survived by her husband, Clinton G. Ames Jr. of Point Clear, AL, son and daughter in law, Jack and Hayat Ames of Atlanta, GA, daughter, Bobbi Ames of Traverse City, MI.   Doris was the daughter of a dairyman.  She grew up riding horses and studying dance in the small town of Bradford.  Her dance took her to New York one summer as a young girl to pursue studies in modern dance.  She then attended Penn State where she became one of the first female cheerleaders as a result of the all male squad enlisting in the military during World War II.  She graduated from college with a degree in Chemistry.  Her career included jobs with Seagram's in Baltimore and Eli Lilly in Indianapolis.  Her career was put aside after marriage and the beginnings of a family.  She was the touchstone of the family.  She will be missed by all.   Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Fairhope, AL on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 11:00 am.
