BIRMINGHAM Ret. Col. Leslie Elliott Allen, age 83, a native of Pocatella, ID, raised in Fairhope and a current resident of Birmingham, died September 1, 2012, due to complications of Parkinson’s disease. Mr. Allen was active in scouting, earning the rank of Eagle. He graduated from Fairhope High School and was a 1952 graduate of Auburn University. The focus of his career was the printing business and his military service. Leslie retired from the Alabama Army National Guard a Colonel after 31 years, and was awarded with the Legion of Merit for his service. He was a member of the Fairhope United Methodist Church where he served as a lay leader. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Blanche Allen, a brother, Robert and his sister, Lucy Ray. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley Strickland Allen; their children, Alyce Lucius of Hattiesburg, MS, Paul Allen and his wife Elizabeth of Mountain Brook, AL; his grandchildren, William Lucius of Hattiesburg, MS, M. Baker Allen, Catherine Allen and Margaret Elise Allen all of Mountain Brook, AL; his brother, David Allen and his wife Boots of Fairhope; nieces, nephews, many other family and friends.
