Forrest James Ware

“Here he lies where he long’d to be; home is the sailor, home from the sea, and the hunter home from the hill.” ORANGE BEACH, AL Forrest James Ware, 72, a long time resident of Tallahassee, FL who moved to Orange Beach in 1996, lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, May 31. He was born November 12, 1939, to John T. Ware and Dawn B. Ware in Trussville, AL and grew up in Oak Ridge, TN.  He received his BS in Fisheries Science from Tennessee Tech University and was employed by the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission.  After 33 years of service, he retired as Chief of Research/Fisheries Division.  His accomplishments include the development of the reciprocal hybrid striped (sunshine) bass and the successful development of techniques for snook culture.  Forrest was an avid outdoorsman who especially loved bow hunting and fly fishing for permit and bonefish.  At one time he held the world record for snook caught on a flyrod.  It was his wish to return to his deer camp for his final resting place.  Forrest was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Frankie Ware, his sons, Kent Ware (Shannon) of Wadmalaw Island, SC, and Scott Ware (Angel) of Orange Beach, AL, and Gastonburg, AL, and their mother, Marilyn Ware, and granddaughter, Emily Rae Ware of Wadmalaw Island, SC. Visitation will be at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Foley on Monday, June 4, 2012, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM with graveside services to be held at the Gastonburg Cemetery on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at 2:00 PM.
