Charles Harrison Bailey, Sr.

SPANISH FORT Charles Harrison Bailey, Sr. of Spanish Fort, Alabama passed away on May 20, 2012. Mr. Bailey was born on December 1, 1917 in Knoxville, Tennessee, the first of three sons of George Harrison Bailey and Anne (Ford) Bailey. Mr. Bailey was raised and lived in the Birmingham, Alabama area. He served honorably in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He achieved the rank of Captain and loved being a pilot often reminiscing about flying P-38's and B-24's. Mr. Bailey was employed by the United States Agency for International Development for over twenty five years. During his tenure with USAID he was able to travel around the world representing the United States in Japan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Liberia. Mr. Bailey was married to Ella Mae (House) Bailey for over fifty years who preceded him in death. Mr. Bailey was an active member of Spanish Fort United Methodist Church singing in the choir, Stephens Ministry, mentoring elementary school children in math skills and teaching Sunday School. He will be missed by his two sons, Charles H. Bailey, Jr. and wife Carol of Shawnee, Kansas and Alan E. Bailey and wife Linda of Lohman, Missouri. He leaves behind one grandson, Matthew A. Bailey of Lohman, Missouri and two granddaughters Jamie Bailey of Seattle, Washington and Charlotte Brown of Pensacola, Florida. In addition he has two great grand children; Kaeden Jonathan Bailey of Jefferson City, Missouri and Megan Brown of Pensacola, Florida. Mr. Bailey will be missed by his nieces and nephews and a multitude of people whose lives he has touched in his 94 years on this earth. Visitation for Mr. Bailey will be held at Spanish Fort United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 26, 2012 between 10:00 AM and noon with a memorial service to follow. A grave side service will be held on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at noon at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama.
