Helen Grace May

FAIRHOPE, AL   Helen Grace May, 90, died March 31, 2012 at Creekside Senior Living in Pensacola, Florida. Helen was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, April 20, 1921, to Christopher and Mary (Plepis) Petrouskas.  Helen served in the Navy during World War II.  While in the Navy, she served in the Judge Advocate General’s office in the War Crimes Division.  She met her true love, Robert “Bob” May and married in 1945.  They were blessed with three sons.  Before moving to Fairhope in 2005, Helen & Bob lived in West Barnstable, Massachusetts.  Helen’s passion was art.  She studied at the Fitchburg Art Museum, Fitchburg State College, the New York Art Students League with Art Neilinger and at the DeCordova in Lincoln, Massachusetts.  Helen exhibited and won awards for her Art in Juried Art Shows in Iowa, New Hampshire, the town of Harvard and vicinity and also the Cape Cod area.  She was very active in the Cape Cod Art Community.  The beauty and charm of Cape Cod and the surrounding New England states was represented in her paintings.  She was a professional commissioned artist.  She also loved dancing, something her and Bob did frequently.  She continued her dancing and painting until the last few years of her life.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert “Bob” May.  Helen is also survived by her three sons and their wives:  Michael and Eileen May of Indianola, Iowa; David and Cynthia May of Princeton, Massachusetts; Chris and Denise May of Daphne, Alabama.  Helen’s four grandchildren are Kathleen May, David May, Amy Tungett and Danielle Parker.  She also had five great grandchildren:  Jaycie, Jack & Addison Tungett and Laken & Caissen Parker.  Interment services will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012, at 11:30 am, at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, Massachusetts, with military honors.    ARRANGEMENTS BY WOLFE-BAYVIEW FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC 19698 GREENO ROAD FAIRHOPE, AL 36532 (251)- 990-7775
