SPANISH FORT, AL. John Peper Wildnauer, age 89 a native of Woodhaven, NY, former resident of White Plains, NY and a resident of Spanish Fort passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. "John" proudly served in the US Army during WWII, from private to captain, in infantry and port operations. John earned a Bachelor of Science (Business Administration) & Master of Public Administration, from Syracuse University & its Maxwell Graduate school. He worked in Public Service, 1948-1978 with Westchester County, NY, in various positions in the budget from Public Administration Intern to Budget Director. He was the first head of the Department of General Services, serving under four County Executives. He was an adjunct professor at Fordham University Graduate School of Public Affairs. John was a member of Rotary International (White Plains, NY & Daphne, AL.), the American Society for Public Administration, Government Finance Officers Association, Alpha Ci Rho social fraternity. He served on the Board of the White Plains & the Central & Northern Westchester YMCA, White Plains Community Chest, White Plains Parking Authority, Westchester Hills Golf Club, White Plains University Club, Boy Scouts Troop Committee. He was a member of the Church in the Highlands, White Plains, NY, serving in many capacities including Moderator of the Church and presently a member of Spanish Fort United Methodist Church. John is predeceased by his parents August Frederick and Millie Peper Wildnauer; his brother August F. Wildnauer, MD., He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Spencer Wildnauer of Spanish Fort, AL., daughter Virginia Gravallese (Al) of Leesburg, VA., His son, John P. Wildnauer, Jr, (Ann) of Perkasie, PA ; many nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends. A celebration of John’s life will be Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Spanish Fort United Methodist Church. Services will be held at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY at a later date.
