Bertha "Bert" L. Sheridan

FAIRHOPE , AL Bertha “Bert” L Sheridan, age 78, a native of Mobile , AL and a resident of Fairhope , AL , passed away at home Sunday, March 25, 2012. Mrs. Sheridan was an active member of St. Paul 's Episcopal Church on the Eastern Shore , and avid volunteer of the church thrift store and altar guild.  She was a long time member of the female Mardi Gras mystic society La Luna Servante, and retired employee of Wilkins Department Store, Don’s Shoe Store and West Brothers Department Store, all of Fairhope. Mrs. Bert, as she was affectionately known, was a gracious southern lady of the finest sort.  She was renowned for her amazing green thumbs and beautiful gardens and happiest when found playing in her yard with dirt under her fingernails.    She was also a long-time Girl Scout leader who enjoyed boating, crabbing and life on Mobile Bay .   Bert was born Bertha Lee Smith in 1933 to Ruth and Troy Smith, and was the oldest and last survivor of seven children.  Her siblings included brothers Geary, David and Edward and sisters Dorothy, Evelyn and Jeannine.  Bert attended Murphy High School and graduated in 1952. Bert was preceded in death by her recently deceased husband of 57 years William “Bill” Sheridan Sr. She is survived by her daughters, Terri Sheridan and her husband Bill Goodman, of Bromley, AL, Angela Blair and her husband Chad, of Chantilly, VA; son, William Kirby Sheridan, Jr. and his wife Lynnette, of Bromley, AL; three grandchildren, Katherine Nelson, Dylan and Sarah Sheridan; many other relatives and dear friends. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul 's Episcopal Church, Daphne, Thursday, March 29, 20112, at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends, at the church, from 10:00 am until the service time. Interment will be in St. Paul ’s Garden of Resurrection .   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 East 56th Street 8th floor, New York , NY 10022 .
