FAIRHOPE Dawn Marie North, age 57, passed away unexpectedly early Sunday morning February19, 2012, at her home in Fairhope, Alabama.. Dawn graduated from Fairhope High School class of 1972, where she was a member of the Spanish Club and acted in the Senior Class play. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a minor in Art from the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia and received a masters degree in Journalism, with a specialty in communications from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While at Louisiana State University, she was assigned to a program sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Insurance where she authored the Health and Fitness program for the State of Louisiana, which was adopted by the State Legislature as the approved basis for health insurance in that state. She graduated summa cum laude from both universities. During her career she was employed by International Paper Company, Mobile, Alabama as Director of Communications. Later she followed her interest in Health insurance as Risk Manager for Baptist Hospital, Pensacola, Florida. She served as president of North Florida Coalition of Employers, which she was instrumental in organizing and developing. She also served as Risk Manager for North Broward Hospital District, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was recently retired and returned to reside in her much loved Daphne, her extended family and many life long friends in this area. Dawn had the soul and nature of an artist, producing many lovely works of art as well as poetry and had many friends in the artist world. A lover of all things beautiful she left the world a much better place and we will truly miss her beautiful smile. She is survived by her mother, Zadia Horne Pace of Daphne, Alabama and father, Dean North of Birmingham, Alabama. She was preceded by her brother, Michael Bret North, her maternal grandparents, Margaret and Dewey Horne of Daphne, Alabama and parental grandparents, Clarence and Beatrice North of Buffalo, New York. A memorial service will be help at Daphne United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm Saturday,. February 25, 2012, with luncheon and visitation beginning at 12 noon at the church.
