Otest Owen Collier

LILLIAN , AL Otest Owen Collier, age 89, a native of Loxley , AL and a resident of Lillian , AL , passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2012 . He was a longtime Gideon International, D.A.V., NCOA, NFR. He served as a deacon, treasurer, and Sunday school teacher, R.A. Director, Administrator of Beggs vocational school and also coached girl’s softball. Mr. Collier was retired from the U.S. Navy after 30 years of service were he served during WW II, Korean War, and Viet-Nam. He was an E-9 in the Navy and was the first one nominated for an E-10 but withdrew for personal reasons. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren along with going to church. Mr. Collier is preceded in death by his wife Nadine Collier, son Ernest (Collier) Buckner, daughter, Evie Davis, parents, two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Velma Alice Collier, three sons, Greg (Sandy) Collier of Pensacola, FL, Larry (Denise) Collier of Lillian, AL, Douglas (Donna) Collier of Nashville, TN, four daughters, Carol (Jerry) Atwell of Amory, MS, Elvie (Tim) O’Gwynn of Mobile, AL, Wanda (Leonel) Garza of San Benito, TX, Rebecca Collier of Downers Grove, IL, one brother, Dwight Collier of Ft. Payne, AL, twenty one grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. The family will receive friends at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Foley , AL , Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM .
