Mattie Grantham-Avinger

FOLEY, AL Mattie Grantham Avinger, age 79, a native of Carlton, AL and a longtime resident of Foley, AL, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2011.  She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Mrs. Avinger was born September 24, 1932 in Jackson, AL and she later moved to Foley, AL. She was a 1951 graduate of Foley High school, a very active member of Foley Methodist Church, an active member of the Baldwin County Cattlewoman Association, worked in the Foley High School store and was the office manager for Grantham Potato Shed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Colon and Martha Wimberley Dukes, husband, Donald Grantham, and sister, Collene Pfeiffer. Mrs. Avinger is survived by her husband, Walton Avinger, one daughter, Sharon (Kelly) Moseley of Magnolia Springs, AL, two sons, Eric (Lavana) Grantham of Huntsville, AL and Brian Grantham of Foley, AL, two brothers, Harold Dukes of Bon Secour, AL and Gerald Dukes of Foley, AL, four grandchildren, Darren Woerner, Phillip Woerner, Julie Papke and Gavin Grantham, and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 12, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Foley United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
