Gene Austin Lowell, Sr.

FAIRHOPE, AL Gene Austin Lowell, Sr., born March 1, 1928 in Fairhope, AL, to the late Hugh Edwin Lowell, Sr. and the late Elsie Grace Kerr, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011. He grew up on the Eastern Shore until enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in South Dakota. He was a member of the Dwelling Place where he served as Senior Elder. He retired Civil Service PNS in 1984. Mr. Lowell loved to cook and share his recipes. He was an avid fisherman casting his net at every opportunity, played pool, gardened with a green thumb, loved music having an extensive record collection. Mr. Lowell was always ready with a quick joke and witty grin. He is survived by his wife, Mary Evelyn Lowell of Fairhope, AL, 4 daughters: Julie Lowell (Kenneth Bradley) Moore of Humble, TX, Mary Annette Lowell (Phillip Lamar) Turner of Birmingham, AL, Paula Lowell (Steven) Hughes of Concord, NC, Pamela Lowell (Matthew Tod) Herren of Pensacola, FL, son: Gene Austin Lowell, Jr. of Scottsdale, AZ, sister: Carolyn Lowell DuBose of Tustin, CA, 2 brothers: Hugh Edwin Lowell, Jr. of Mobile, AL, Elwood Martin Lowell of Fairhope, AL, 12 grandchildren: Gene Austin Lowell, III, Jessica Turner (Dwight David) Holley, Kenneth Brandon Moore, Steven Bradley Hughes, Phillip Clark (Katie Sue) Turner, Amber Faith Moore, Timothy James Turner, Matthew Clinton Hughes, Jared Alexander Lowell, Micah Paul Hughes, Myles Lowell Herren, Jeremy Tod Herren, and one great grandchild, Emma Sue Turner. Mr. Lowell was loved by many who considered him a father figure, numerous nieces, nephews, and countless others. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2011, at 3:00 pm, at the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope, AL.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Memory Gardens of Fairhope. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice.
