John William Dunn

SPANISH FORT,  AL. John William Dunn, age 83, a resident of Spanish Fort, AL, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2011. He was born in Auxvasse, MO. on October 2, 1927 to William C and Helen Creed Dunn. Mr. Dunn was preceded in death by both parents, a brother, Robert C. Dunn and a sister, Mary Helen Riley. He was schooled in Callaway and Boone counties in Missouri.  Mr. Dunn served in the U. S. Navy and after boot camp, he finished submarine school and was assigned to the submarine USS Tilefish 307.  After his service time he entered the University of Missouri, graduating in 1950.  He married Bernice “Bea” Rollins on Christmas Day 1948.  Mr. Dunn was a member of Mizzou Meat Judging Team, winning several honors at the Kansas City Royal and Chicago International.  He joined John Morrell and Company in Ottumwa, Iowa upon graduation from college.  The next 42 years was spent in the company’s Beef Division in Oakland CA, Estherville, Iowa, Chicago, IL, Amarillo, TX and Montgomery, AL.  At retirement in 1992, he was Director of Beef Sales to Japan for John Morrell.  He was a member of the Lake Forest Men’s Golf Association and a member of the board of directors for the Alabama Senior Golf Association. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 19, 2011 at Spanish Fort United Methodist Church.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
