SPANISH FORT, AL Virgil N. Peacock was born October 23, 1930 in Atmore, AL and a resident of Spanish Fort passed away Tuesday, September 13th, 2011 in a local healthcare facility. He served 23 years in the U. S. Navy and retired as a Lieutenant Commander in 1972. After his retirement from the Navy, he graduated from Troy University with a BA in Business Administration. Virgil was a Bank Officer with First National Bank of Mobile, AmSouth Bank, First Southern Savings and Loan and Altus Bank. Virgil was a deacon and elder at Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church and was also chairman of the building committee when the sanctuary was built in 1987. He was a member of the Spanish Fort Civitan Club where he held the offices of president, vice president and membership chairman. He was a hard worker who said he never had a job he didn’t like. He was also an avid Alabama football fan. He played football in high school and was one of the "Barnes boys" in Atmore. Virgil is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nell, and three sons, Bryan (Terri), Brad (Lisa) and Greg (Andrea), grandchildren Kelly, Lindsey, Lauren, Will, Bryndon, Bailey and Bryce and sisters Ruth Taylor and Joyce Fuller. A graveside service will be held at Jubilee Memorial Gardens at 9:00 am, Thursday, September 15th. A memorial service will follow at 10:00 am at Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church.
