SPANISH FORT, AL James Donahue Edson, age 78, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011 in Daphne. He was a native of Evergreen and a resident of Spanish Fort. James graduated Evergreen High School where he was an all around athlete. He was a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves and devoted to Alabama Crimson Tide football. Mr. Edson was a member of East Pointe Baptist Church and the Steam & Pipe Fitters, Local 119. He worked in the air conditioning business for fifty-two years.. He was a U.S Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jessica Chenoa Wirkkala. He is survived by his wife, Lori Butler Edson of Spanish Fort; two daughters, Donna Edson Turner of Mobile, Pamela Edson Wirkkala of Asheville, NC; one son, Rhett Butler of Mobile; one brother, Cullen Edson of Gulfport, MS and four grandchildren, Travis Butler, Hannah, Cicely and Joel Warnick. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the Friends of the Mobile Animal Shelter, 855 Owens Street , Mobile , AL 36604 .
