Ruth Brown Magnesen

GULF SHORES , AL Ruth Brown Magnesen, born on December 29, 1919 in Montgomery , AL , a resident of Gulf Shores , AL , passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011.  She was married to Cole Brown until his death in 1975.  They relocated their produce business from Montgomery to Foley in the 1960’s, coming to live on Ft. Morgan Road and building a home on the lagoon which was destroyed in Hurricane Frederic. Later Ruth was married to Col. (Ret.) Charles Magnesen until his death in 2000.  Mrs. Magnesen lived in Gulf Shores for the past 50 years.  For the past year, she enjoyed living at Live Oak Assisted Living. She is survived by four children, Claire Downey, Birmingham , Rev. Cole Brown, Foley, Sandra Nathan-Moody, Gulf Shores , and Carol Dawson, Summerdale, 1 4 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren.   Mrs. Magnesen was a member of Lagoon Baptist Church , where she taught Sunday School for many years.  She was presently a member of First Presbyterian Church of Gulf Shores.  She was also a member of Baldwin County Performing Arts, The Gulf Shores Women’s Club, and a charter member of Gulf Shores Golf Club.
