Margery Lee Erwin Geddes

FAIRHOPE , AL   Margery Lee Erwin Geddes, age 86, a native of Falls Church , VA and a resident of Fairhope , AL , passed away Monday, August 15, 2011, following a three-year battle with cancer.   Margi grew up in Falls Church , VA.   During WWII, she worked for the Maritime Commission in support of the Liberty ships.  In 1947, she and Wilburt H. Geddes married.  During their long marriage, they raised a family and traveled all over the US and to many foreign countries.  They celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary at Machu Picchu in Peru .    After her children were all in school, Margi realized her life-long dream of going to college, eventually earning a Master’s Degree in Archeology from the University of Southern Mississippi .  She taught Anthropology at Gulf Coast Community College from 1987 to 2003.  She participated in many archeological excavations.  While digging in Virginia , she discovered a set of prehistoric giant sloth footprints – just the second set of these tracks to be found in America .  Margi’s quest for knowledge was insatiable.  Her best friend was a good book, and she liked nothing better than to have her hands in the dirt.   A supportive wife, loving mother, archaeologist, teacher and nature enthusiast, Margi will be sorely missed by all who knew her.   Mrs. Geddes was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburt H. Geddes.   She is survived by her children, Tim Geddes of Long Beach, MS, Norman Geddes of Gainesville, GA, Jan Fulton of Exton, PA, Glenn Geddes of Fairhope, AL, Gary Geddes of Austin, TX, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.   A celebration of life memorial service will be held from the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope , AL , Friday, August 19, 2011, at 2:00pm.   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, P.
