Dean Anthony Ullock

FAIRHOPE , AL   Dean Anthony Ullock, a native of Elgin , IL , resident of Fairhope , AL , passed away at his home, Thursday, June 23, 2011, after a courageous battle with Cancer.  He was the son of Thomas and Beverly (Thompson) Ullock.   Dean joined the U.S. Army Special Forces, where he trained Army personnel in mountain terrain and survival, and later continued his specialties as a Navy trained Hard Hat Deep Sea Diver, and was presidentially decorated for his efforts associated with Air Florida Flt 90, that crashed into the Potomac River in 1982.  Following full time service, he enrolled in environmental studies at Auburn University , where he received a B.S. in 1989, and remained a reservist with Company A of the 2 nd Army Special Forces.  He received an M.S. from the University of Florida in 1991.   A proud veteran, Dean joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a Federal On-Scene Coordinator.  During his tenure at EPA, Dean took a leadership role in most of the major natural and man-made disasters to befall the Southeast for more than two decades.  In this role, he was a respected mentor, teacher, and inspiration to everyone.   Dean was truly a “Lover of Life”, who was gracious and kind hearted, had a passion for people and the environment, and made an adventure out of life for his family and friends alike.   He is survived by his wife, Jamie,   daughter, Marley,   beloved dog, Daisy,   stepmother, Lois Ullock,   brothers, Gregory (Teresa) Derron, Michael Mayer, Tom Ullock, Jr., Wade Ullock, Bill Wolfensberger,   sister, Jan (Steve) Jann,   nieces, Allison and Julia Jann,   many other loving relatives and friends.   Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 2:00 pm, at Saint Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope , AL .    Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to service at the church, with graveside services to follow at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.   In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the benefit fund created for Marley Ullock at Compass Bank.   ARRANGEMENTS BY WOLFE-BAYVIEW FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATORY, INC 19698 GREENO ROAD FAIRHOPE, AL 36532
