Charles Louis Runnels

FAIRHOPE, AL Charles Louis Runnels, Sr. of Fairhope, Alabama slipped away on May 21, 2011. His eldest daughter Caren Lea preceded him in death. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Bette Williams Runnels, his son Charles Louis, Jr. and his younger daughter Carol Leslie. Charlie was born in Center, Texas on November 23, 1930. He is a graduate of Lamar College in Beaumont, Texas. He enjoyed working as a geologist and geophysicist.  He loved taking his family on vacations where they enjoyed the beach, the countryside, camping, and skiing down snow covered mountains. He was a wonderful husband and father, with a gentle touch, and a playful sense of humor. He was blessed to have spent many years on the golf course, and has kept the eight golf balls that had the good sense to go in the hole on the first drive. We will miss his smile and his laughter, his dancing and his loving company. A Celebration of Life Service with shared memories will be held at the Chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home Fairhope on Tuesday, May 24th at 11:00. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tuscaloosa Disaster Relief Fund or The Haven for Animals in Fairhope.
