SPANISH FORT Carl Maurice Fremaux, who passed away Monday, May 16 at Westminster Village, was born in Houston, Texas on January 2, 1918. He lived in New Orleans, Louisana from his very early years and graduated from Tulane University in 1939 with a business degree. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha and served as its president his last two years. Mr. Fremaux was a first lieutenant in the U. S. Army Air force during World War II prior to beginning his career with Southern Bell Telephone Company (currently AT&T) in New Orleans. Southern Bell transferred him to Atlanta and then to Florida where he retired in 1982 after 43 years of service. He and Mrs. Fremaux have made their home at Westminster Village in Spanish Fort since 2005. Mr. Fremaux was a lifelong community volunteer having served as president of the Fort Pierce, FL Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce as well as the Daytona Beach, FL Rotary Club, where he was made a Paul Harris Fellow. He was president of the Bethune-Cookman College Board of Counselors, the Extended Family of Daytona Beach, and the Volusia County Chapter of United Nations/U.S.A. Mr. Fremaux served two terms as chairman of the Board of the Ormond Beach Memorial Hospital, was chairman of the American Red Cross, the United Way campaign and the United Negro College Fund. Mr. Fremaux also was on the boards of the Flagship Bank of Volusia County, Century Federal Savings and Loan Association, Ormond Memorial Art Gallery and Gardens, Museum of Arts and Sciences, the Halifax Club, Oceanside Country Club, and the Board of Trustees of First United Methodist Church of Ormond Beach. In his later years, Mr. Fremaux was a mentor with the Great Kids program at the First United Methodist Church of Ormond Beach and is currently a member of Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Audrey Weeks Fremaux; a daughter, Gayle F. Boland of Atlanta, Georgia, a son and his wife, Cary C. Fremaux and Cyndy B. Fremaux of Houston, Texas; three grandsons, John A. Boland IV, Carl F. Boland and his wife, Innes G. Boland, and Andrew T. Boland and his wife, Jennifer P. Boland; one brother, Lloyd J. Fremaux and his wife, Marjorie L. Fremaux; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry J. And Lillian F. Fremaux and by three brothers, Emmett H. Fremaux, Louis S. Fremaux, and Roy Fremaux. A memorial service will be held at Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, May 18 at 11:00 AM.
