Eugene William McCarty

MCCARTY DAPHNE Mr. Eugene William McCarty age 91 a native of Indianapolis, IN and resident of Daphne, AL, passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011. Gene is preceded in death by his parents Eugene W. and Muriel McCarty and Regina N. McCarty the mother of his children and wife for 33 years Gene graduated from Emerich Manuel Training H.S. in 1938. He was awarded the Dyer medal for outstanding scholar/athlete of the year. He graduated from Butler College of Pharmacy in 1950 as a veteran of WWII he served in the Army Air corp. In 2008 he was part of the first Honor Flight to visit the WWII memorial from Birmingham. In 1977 Gene retired from Eli Lilly after a 37 year career. He served as Sec. of Jeff. Co. Pharmacy Ass. for 4 years. He transferred to Birmingham in 1955 and remained a resident of AL. He made his final residence in Daphne, AL. Gene moved his family to Vestavia Hills in 1956 and was a founding member of The Lutheran Church of Vestavia Hills, where he served as congregational President. He is survived by 2 daughters Suzanne (Jim) Kilgore of Gulf Shores, AL; Jane M. (Ralph) Alberico of Harrisonburg, VA 1 son Roger G. McCarty of Hanceville, AL 3 grandchildren Kevin J. Jones, Adam B. (Mary Jane) Kilgore, Rachael A. (Sam) Le 5 great grandchildren A private Memorial Services was held on Sunday, February 20, 2011 in Birmingham, AL.
