PERDIDO BEACH, AL Mary Cotnam Langford born Nov. 16, 1922 passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2011 in Foley. She was born in Houston, TX, Mary moved to her mothers's homestead in Springhill at the age of seven and attended Springhill School (now Mary B. Austin Elementary School) while Mary B. Austin was Principal. She attended Murphy High School and the Miss Louise S. McGee School for Girls in New Orleans, After studying at Long Beach Mississippi Junior College, she had several positions as a bookkeeper. Mary was an airline stewardess for Eastern Airlines for two years and then worked in their corporate office in New York City for eleven years. After returning to Alabama, she assisted with the opening of the original Holiday Inn at Gulf Shores. She had many fond memories of living above the old Fairhope Yacht Club while her her husband was manager. Mary joined the Episcopal Church at the age of twelve and was confirmed at St. Paul's Chapel, Mobile. She was a founding member of Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, Gulf Shores and the Episcopal Church of the Advent, Lillian, where she was active in the Altar Guild, Twice Upon a Time Thrift Shop, Barbecue and Blues and assisting the church treasurer. Mary enjoyed painting and travel. She was a member of the South Alabama Senior Travelers and served as their greeter for eight years. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard C. Mueller, David A. Updike, Albert Hurley Langford, Sr.; a stepson, Albert H. Langford, Jr. Mary is survived by a daughter, Mary Ethel "Mimi" Boone; three granddaughters, six great grandchildren and a host of friends who will greatly miss her. A graveside service will be held Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Montrose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Advent, Building Fund, 12099 Co.
