FAIRHOPE, AL Erich Ashley Sandley of Fairhope, AL was born to Joseph Sandley and Ann Miller (Sandley) Massey on April 2, 1987 at Clark Air Force Base, Philippines. Erich departed this life on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 in Landstuhl, Germany. Erich was an extremely intelligent young man. He attended John Ehret High School, Marrero, LA, Class of 2005. November 2005, he joined the U. S. Army. January 2006, Erich graduated Army Basic Training at Fort Benning, GA. May 2006, Erich graduated as a Combat Medic A. I. T. at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. Between June 2006 and July 2007, Erich was stationed at Brian Allgood Army Community Hospital, at Yongsan Garrison, Seoul, South Korea. He returned to the United States and was stationed at Fort Hood, Killeen, Texas between the years 2007 and 2009. He enrolled and attended Central Texas College, Killen, TX and where his majored in History. On October 2009, went back overseas and was stationed at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center where he was assigned to the Neurology Clinic. Erich had a great love for his brothers, Scott, Brandon, Logan and Brent and his many dogs. He enjoyed fishing; loved playing sports and as he said “just keeping busy”. He also loved reading books and four of his favorites were “Culture War” by Bill O’Reilly; The Scarlet Letter; Gone With the Wind; and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. He enjoyed political science and was thinking about going into politics when his tour of duty was complete. Other things that gave him pleasure were movies (Harry Potter) basketball and football, especially the New Orleans Saints. Scott Sandley escorted his brother home from Dover, Delaware. He is survived by Joseph Sandley, father; Ann Miller (Sandley)(Richard) Massey, mother and stepfather; Joe Sandley, grandfather; Ashley Sandley, grandmother; Cecil L. Miller and Mary Doris Miller, grandparents; Jo A. Massey, step-grandmother; Lucia Carrington, great grandmother; Scott Sandley, Brandon Sandley, Logan Sandley and Brent Massey, brothers; and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2011, at 12:00 pm, at the Chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home in Fairhope, AL. The family will receive friends from 11:30 until service time.
